Recent advances in renal pathology

چکیده

Understanding why individuals vary in their susceptibility to renal disease is the focus of a comprehensive review of the genetic basis of renal disease by McKnight et al. [1]. The authors note that single gene disorders account for less than 15% of end stage renal disease, even though over 300 inherited disorders have been described that affect the kidneys. In addition to outlining the analytical methods in use they explain how techniques that study DNA from affected and unaffected populations in different cohorts have progressed so that more complex multigene renal pathologies can now be tackled. They are cautious about the ability of certain genetic tests to predict risk of kidney disease.

Clinical applications of recent molecular advances in urologic malignancies: no longer chasing a "mirage"?

As our understanding of the molecular events leading to the development and progression of genitourologic malignancies, new markers of detection, prognostication, and therapy prediction can be exploited in the management of these prevalent tumors. The current review discusses the recent advances in prostate, bladder, renal, and testicular neoplasms that are pertinent to the anatomic pathologist.

Cystic renal tumors: new entities and novel concepts.

Cystic renal neoplasms and renal epithelial stromal tumors are diagnostically challenging and represent some novel tumor entities. In this article, clinical and pathologic features of established and novel entities are discussed. Predominantly cystic renal tumors include cystic nephroma/mixed epithelial and stromal tumor, synovial sarcoma, and multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma. These ent...

The Protective Effect of Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Nanoparticles in Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Damage

Background& objectives: Renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) damage occurs during renal transplantation in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients which activate immune responses. Inflammatory responses by increased levels of cytokines can lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) that contributes to the loss of renal grafts and graft dysfunction. The purpose of this study was to review the therapeutic effe...

Advances in the pathology of glomerular diseases.

Glomerular injury can be caused by numerous insults including hemodynamics, infections and immunity, hereditary and metabolic diseases, and toxicity. Basic and translational experimental studies in combination with clinical research in patients with renal disease have advanced our understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of many forms of glomerulonephritis. This new knowledge has facilita...
